To Use Or Not To Use Social Media Groups To Efficiently Manage Your Business

by Deann Jackson

In our previous issue, we mentioned about how you can make money from Facebook. In this issue we are going to talk about Facebook marketing and Facebook Groups for your small business.

This Facebook Group Application has just recently been revived by the social networking site, to make it more useful and beneficial for its users. Take note that compared with Fan pages, the Groups application is not suitable for use if you're developing a target market. A group can be kept secret or open should the moderator chooses to do it. With Groups, one is allowed to chat, send emails and post photos to a given group of people.

Still, the Groups feature has a number of boundaries compared to a Fan page or Business page. In order to work around this limitation, companies can either have an employee open a personal account and then take control of their Facebook marketing efforts or be very careful who they choose as contacts in their business page. Even the business owner can implement this right away.

Let's quickly look at a few ways to apply social media management and using the Facebook Group Application to your advantage:

- As Connection to other Industry Figures

Regardless of the industry you belong to, a solid discussion about various issues is quite important for you as a businessman. This not only increases your knowledge about the industry you're in but also builds your reputation among other business owners. Although one might argue that you are indeed talking to competition, it is unwise to go cheap on ideas as this is one way to create a buzz in the community. So don't be afraid to talk about and moderate a closed or open discussion (whatever you prefer) with other entrepreneurs. It might just be a peg for a prospect to choose you later on.

- As An Assistance Group

Are you dealing with a couple of snags in online marketing? What about if you need to openly discuss an internal problem in the administrative division? With Facebook for Business, you can effortlessly do this with as much openness or privacy as you want.Employees will appreciate the written support and this will help them feel like they're not alone in solving the problem. You and your team will also be able to post some positive results at the wall and who knows? This might even turn out to be a motivation for everyone.

To Start A Corporate Social Responsibility

Are you interested in running a fundraising activity inside your team? How about if you need to communicate with the charitable organisation your company is involved with? Facebook will give your efforts a sense of openness and will also help you be more organized with the call for volunteers. Making the discussion open will invite other individuals to take part in and share their own views.

- As a Way to Update Field Workers Regular communication among the workers is an essential aspect of any business. As such, these companies need a way to update their employees of the happenings in the Administrative side. Any issue that need to be discussed within the staff can be done online with the use of Facebook Groups. Discussions can be done through chats as well as publishing of updates at the wall.

That's it for today's issue. Make sure to read the next one. We will talk about the right ways to connect with your Facebook friends and fans.
