Twitter Marketing - Is It A Great Way To Grow Your List?

by Joann J. White

Programs to automate marketing on Twitter were being greatly promoted a few years ago. It was considered that Twitter was one of the best ways to grow a list and to get people to buy the products you are advertising. Nevertheless, how much of a bang for your buck do you get from any of these software tools that were pushed at us to improve our gross sales? In today's article, we are going to be talking about Twitter marketing and if it is even worth it for you to use it.

Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help folks build a huge Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to look into it. Not only did I shell out money to register in programs that would get me followers but I invested in a few softwares to help advertise the products I was selling. By the time I was done, I'd spent money on something like eight programs to perform some of the grunt work involved in Twitter marketing.

I invested in a program that would automatically follow people for me in an attempt to have them follow me back. And then there was the tool that would un-follow individuals who were not following me. This would enable me to follow different individuals again to get them to follow me. On top of some other programs that are not actually worth mentioning, I bought a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog. In the beginning, I was really delighted with the end results after using the programs in combination as they really delivered on what they promised. I was quickly brought down to earth when I looked at my spreadsheet and found that I wasn't actually pulling in any money! My tactic was to post many blog entries daily and each of them was then sent straight to display on Twitter. Hoping to increase the number of daily posts, I found a way to automatically post any number of entries to my blog and hopefully get more Twitter followers.

Now permit me to reveal to you my results. Applying this strategy over three years generated about 10,000 people following me on Twitter. And while you may think that is fantastic, wait 'til you hear the whole story. During those three years I had affiliate links to my products on more than 15,000 blog postings in my Twitter account. My blog posts appearing on Twitter was the only type of advertising for that blog I did and to find out the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Well, you can't say that 3 years isn't long enough to get modest results but using Twitter I just got 2 - 4 visitors daily to my blog. My affiliate earnings from 2 transactions was $47 and to that you can add $8.65 Adsense revenue - very dismal all around!

Despite me employing software to make the job more effortless and achieving nearly 10,000 followers on Twitter, I still could not turn a decent profit using Twitter marketing for my blog. At the end of the day I'm now out of money for the Twitter marketing tools I paid for because my dollar return was so dismal. So from my perspective, though there may be good ways to promote on Twitter, paying for the automatic softwares are not the way to go.
